Daily Sketch: Old School Glamour

Here’s a sketch from a shoot I did last year. I hadn’t intended it to look like a 40s Hollywood photo, it just turned out that way. It’ll be my next painting, but (at least with this painting of it) I won’t be emphasizing this style. Maybe I’ll paint it again. For now, here’s the sketch

Daily Sketches Are Back

I’ve taken a little break from painting. I was to start a new portrait painting class tomorrow night at the Studio Incamminati, a place I’ve wanted to study at for a few years, but the class was canceled. So I got a couple hundred bucks back on unused paints and canvases, but I’m not sure what my painting schedule is next.

Here’s today’s sketch. I’ll be painting this in dyes soon.

Return of the daily sketch

Also, I’m going to paint some beaches soon, too.

I am currently feeling a little all over the place, there’s at least four series of paintings fighting for first position in my head, so for now, a step back is necessary.

Painting Study. Reflections series. Stoya

Here’s a sketch I did in preparation for a new painting for a new series I’ve been working on for a few years. Just getting to paint it now.

In this one, the model is Stoya. She’s gorgeous, and has very defined features, but for some reason though I’m very good at capturing people’s likenesses, I’m hit or miss when I draw Stoya. I think it’s because her features are very subtle. Part of the beauty. It also allows her to create many different looks.

I’ve got a likeness drawn on the canvas now that I’m happy with, I’ll post a picture of it later. For now, here’s a breakdown. It’s not so flattering, but it will help me later when I paint.

Sideshow Sketchy’s

Pictures from Friday night’s Dr. Sketchy’s Philly. Models this session were from the Olde City Sideshow. I won one of their t-shirts for a drawing I did with my left hand (I’m a righty). I don’t have that picture here, but I’ll post it soon. Just got my scanner working after a few months.

Dr. Sketchy New York! Justine Joli!

I went to Dr. Sketchy‘s again, this time in NYC this past Saturday. The amazingly talented and accomplished Molly Crabapple was there. I’m eternally grateful to her for establishing Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School.

I’m going to the Dr. Sketchy’s Philly this Friday, let me know if you’re interested. It’s fun, there’s cool people and free beer, and it’s in an amazing part of the Fleisher Art Memorial that’s not always open.

I’m going to post about 20 sketches soon, from Philly and NYC Dr. Sketchy’s, but for now, here’s one of the beautiful Justine Joli.
